Frequently asked questions

1. Do I really need a website?

Every business, big or small, should have a website: a contact point between you and your customers; somewhere to showcase what you have to offer, to differentiate yourself from your competition, and to prove that you’re a legitimate business.

2. Can't I just make my own website?

Technically, yes, there are loads of tools out there for creating websites. But it's a steep learning curve and if you're not familiar with that technology already, it'll take a long time to learn, and then you'll need to spend even longer making the website itself. And - unless you're a designer - we can pretty much guarantee you'll end up with something that doesn't look that good. We can give you a website that looks amazing, really works, and saves you time and money.

3. How long does it take to build a website?

How long it takes to build a website really depends on the size and complexity of the site. We can put together a simple website with a few pages in just a couple of days; a bigger or more complicated one will take a bit longer. Take a look at our portfolio for an idea about how long different types of websites take to build.

4. How much does a website cost?

The cost of a website depends on who designs and builds it for you. Big flashy agencies will charge you tens of thousands of pounds - or more. You can get it cheaper if you go straight to a developer - but unless they're a designer too, you won't get a nice-looking website. However, there is a middle ground. Appleseed Digital Design can give you a website that looks amazing but doesn't cost the earth. Read more about our pricing here.

5. How do you provide high-quality websites for a reasonable fee?

We're able to design and build websites that are top quality but also affordable. There are a number of reasons for this. Firstly, we're a small family business working out of our home, so our overheads are super low. We're really efficient, so work that might take an agency or developer a few weeks to get through, we do in a matter of days. Finally, for most websites we don't see the need for custom code or other time-consuming frills: the tools we use offer up pretty much everything we need to put together a shiny website, so we go to those as our first port of call before turning to more time-consuming solutions. And all without compromising on quality.

6. What if I need to update my website?

We think it's important that all our websites are easy for the client to use and update themselves if they want to; we'll make sure that you can make any small changes (e.g. updating copy or pictures) yourself if you want to. But we also provide ongoing support. Once we've built your website for you, we'll offer you a few different options:

Option 1. A support contract: you'll hire us for (let's say) an hour a month to do any changes or updates that are needed, and fix anything that might go wrong.

Option 2. A comprehensive guide to maintaining your website: we'll put together an in-depth written guide with pictures, to help you update and edit your website yourself.

Option 3. We hand the site straight over to you and you do all future changes yourself.

In all cases, we'll never wash our hands of you! We'll keep your website in our records and we'll always be available to help should anything go wrong.
